ARTSIMANS – Sílvia  Bofarull Boschsacoma

Born in Terrassa in1967. Self-educated on her journey down the path of life. Her hands are her prime tools of expression. With an experimental trajectory, she enters through the makeup in the world of volumes and colors, jumping towards Nature where she finds the forms and the recycling, followed by a world of structural lace that takes her on the way of the handicrafts. She experiments with a variety of materials.

For no particular reason, she became interested in dumped or abandoned waste, creating unique pieces of art for no other purpose other than personal gratification and the learning process that followed. Nature is a vast ocean of discoveries, she was drawn to different materials because of their unique shapes and patinas that were formed over time due to climate conditions or the forgotten life stories that are buried and forgotten in nature. Every movement is followed by another, a conscious or unconscious transformation. Every act brings a resolution or growth of some kind.

BOATS

The elements

Tree trunks and debris flow through the rivers and into the sea. They often pass through both sweet and salted waters. Due to weather and climate conditions, they may travel through wet and dry places, enduring storms that shape them and air that blows them wildly. By the time they reach the sea, the waves further shape them and no two pieces are the same, each one has gone through their very own process. Nature is not concerned about industrial planning and yet it has its own natural industry that shapes every piece uniquely.

Iron, a superb element that gives quality material. Broken, dented, forged, crushed or rusty… For her it is a symbol of the trace of time. It is a material that is still resistant even when rusty. It was worked on with the thrill of the past, it’s melted into different shapes and it has helped our evolution when necessary.

Yarn, a tensor effect, something that ties things together, which is important. If there is no connecting thread we have no sail or bearings, and the sails alone won’t get us go very far either. If structure is all there is, we navigate aimlessly at the mercy of the confluence of tides. That’s what we call ‘going with the flow’.

Sails, adapting to the given condition. In a calm sea, they will be still. When the wind blows, they will navigate. In a storm, they will struggle. In an unexpected tornado, they will break and sometimes, they will be repaired and will navigate again, but quite often they will be dumped and left behind as a memory.
